Kennedy Baseball History
John F. Kennedy Senior High School is one of two public high schools in Bloomington, Minnesota. Named after former president John F. Kennedy, it was opened in 1965. The school has been a member of the Lake Conference since opening.

Notable Alumni
Bruce Hauge - Class of 1968 was a three-sport athlete at Kennedy, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He led the Lake Conference in scoring with 78 points in his junior year of basketball and was named MVP and All-Conference. In football, re received All-Conference honors and was named Player of the Week by the Star Tribune and was KRSI's Radio's Offensive Player of the Year. He served as Kennedy junior class Vice-President. In his senior year Bruce was captain of the football team, MVP and earned All-State honors. At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Bruce played on the 1970-71 and 1971-72 Orange Bowl National Championship teams. Currently, Bruce lives in Sydney, NE with his wife, Cheryl. He owns Hauge Insurance Co. and serves as the town's mayor.
Thomas Bauer - Class of 1975 was a 3-sport athlete at Kennedy High School, lettering in football, hockey and baseball. When he graduated in 1975, he held the record for all-time leading scorer in Bloomington hockey history. Tom was co-captain for the Providence College hockey team in 1978-79 and was the first player in Providence history to play in every game, freshman through senior year. Tom was drafted and offered a professional hockey contract by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1977. A member of the 1975 Kennedy High School State Championship baseball team, Tom was offered a professional contract by the Boston Red Sox. Currently, Tom is president of AIR-serv Group in Mendota Heights.
Gregg Gaughran - Class of 1975 was a three-sport Kennedy athlete, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He received All-Conference honors in all three sports. He was a member of the 1974-75 Lake Red Conference Championship basketball and 1975 State Championship baseball teams. Gregg was selected to play in both the 1975 Minnesota State Football All-Star game and the Baseball All-Star game. He played three years in the Minnesota Twins minor league organization. Following baseball, he played football at North Dakota State University where he was co-captain. He was named All-Conference and Academic All-Conference at North Dakota State. He currently lives in Ohio with his wife, Mary, and is an executive at Westfield Insurance.
Kent Hrbek - Class of 1978 Minnesota Twins first baseman. Kent Hrbek was recognized for lifetime achievement by the Lake Conference in 1998. Mr. Hrbek was inducted in the Kennedy Hall of Fame in 2006.
Joe Decker - Class of 1987 played baseball for three years and hockey for three years at Kennedy High School. In his senior year, he and co-captain Jason Miller were key players on the 1987 state championship hockey team, coached by 2006 Hall of Famer Jerry Peterson. Joe was named All-State in 1987. He was also named the Lake Conference Player of the Year and was a finalist for the title of "Mr. Hockey." Joe was in the top 10% of his class at Kennedy and was a member of the Honor Society of Eagles. He received a hockey scholarship to the University of Wisconsin where he played on the 1990 NCAA National Championship team. In 1995, Joe was the NIHA (National Inline Hockey Association) champion with Team Rollerblade. Joe is currently a loan officer in Eagan and lives in Inver Grove Heights with his wife Lynda.
